Wake Forest All-Star Cheerleading

WFAS HomeHistory | FAQ | Testimonials | Coaches | WFAS Prep Team

Welcome to the Wake Forest All-Star cheerleading program! Whether you are one of our team parents, athletes, or maybe a new parent or athlete interested in our program, we want you to be able to find the information that you need.

Two of my daughters have cheered in the All-Star Prep division at Young’s and it really is wonderful preparation for further cheerleading and for life. They learned great skills, what it takes to be part of a team, how to be competition-ready and much, much more. Thank you for offering such a great program!

The Wake Forest All-Star cheerleading program is gearing up for the 2017-2018 season! For more than 15 years under the direction of Shannon Young, the WFAS cheerleading program has been a well-established, reputable program known for its high standards. Shannon is recognized in the industry for running an excellent, extremely well organized program!

For those new to All-Star cheerleading, Young’s Gym was the first gym in Wake County to offer recreational gymnastics and All-Star cheerleading under the same roof in 1994. The cheerleading program name was changed to the Wake Forest All-Stars in 2003 when Shannon stepped in and decided to increase the competiveness of the teams. The program has participated at the highest level of competition over the years. Our goal is always to develop the talent in our gym to the highest level of All-Star cheerleading!

There are tryout requirements to make a WFAS full season team. Athletes in the youth age division and up are not guaranteed to make a full season team. You can learn more about WFAS’ history here.

All youth age and older athletes (9 & up as of Aug. 31st) will be required to have a standing back handspring and a round off back handspring unspotted at tryouts! This helps us insure the minimum level of those teams each year as level 2 and increases the total skill quality of each team in those age divisions at the start of each season, thus increasing each team’s chance of competing at higher levels in those age divisions. If an athlete does not have the required skills to make a WFAS full season team, then she can join our WFAS Prep program. The WFAS Prep team provides athletes the opportunity to acquire skills and experience All-Star cheerleading in a shorter, less intensive, less expensive season! Visit our WFAS Prep Team page for more information.

At WFAS, we believe in building the whole athlete. Our program does not place emphasis solely on physical strength and competitive achievement, but we also believe in developing the character and values of each of our athletes. Competitive cheerleading provides an excellent opportunity for participants to develop self-confidence, leadership, effective time management and teamwork. We take a personal interest in each of our athletes and believe that our commitment to personalized attention allows each cheerleader to reach her full potential and achieve all of her goals both in the gym and in life. Every athlete is important to us.

As a small All-Star gym with a maximum of 5 full season teams each season, WFAS always strives to instill a fun, family atmosphere in its program. Each season, we look forward to providing an excellent All-Star cheerleading program to the Wake Forest area!
